The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

.

This book made me cry.  And not just cry, but ugly cry.  But I don’t care because The Friend Zone is one of my favorite books for 2019.  It’s probably going on my favorites shelf as soon as I can get a physical copy of this book which publishes today!!  I absolutely adored this book!  I completely fell for Kristen and Josh as they alternate telling their story.  I am so grateful to @readforeverpub  for the opportunity to read this and I have to say that this is one of my favorite books of 2019.

.

We meet Josh, a firefighter🚒 who has just moved to LA to make a fresh start.  He’s trying to navigate the SoCal freeways when he causes a fender-bender with the pickup in front of him.  Kristen is the driver.  Turns out they will be spending a lot of time together.  They are the best man and maid-of-honor for the wedding of their best friends, Sloan and Brandon.  Sounds like another meet-cute, romcom?  Not exactly.

.

This book has turned me into a solid fan of contemporary romances.  I’m so happy that I gave this genre a chance. This is why I fell in love with reading so long ago.  To get lost in a story.  To laugh and cry along with the characters.  Kristen is smart, funny, and has a bunch of issues because of her childhood, an only child of a cold, distant mother.  But she’s a loyal friend, a business owner and a pup parent to Stuntman Mike (read the book!) and she gets hangry 🍕🌮😂.  Josh got into firefighting to help people and he’s a good, decent man.  He grew up in a close family with six sisters.

.

There are serious issues here.  Issues of infertility, self-esteem and family dynamics. Life is not perfect and love is not always easy.  But love is always worth the struggle.

.

I would recommend this book to anyone.  It was a such a great all-around read and even if you don’t like romance novels, please give this book a chance.  Congratulations on a fantastic debut novel, @authorabbyjimenez.  I can’t wait for your next book!

.

One more thing:  Always trust Stuntman Mike!
